Tahir Hussain is a graduate in Business Studies. In 1993 He worked as a Health Education Co-ordinator for seven years with the local health authority in Lancashire. He was responsible for making health services more accessible to Black and Minority Ethic Communities, particularly drugs and HIV/AIDS awareness. Tahir also chaired the Health Authority BME Community Consultation Forum.

In 2001 Tahir spent two years working within the Criminal Justice System working with Grater Manchester Police, the Magistrates and the NHS trust. In 2002 Tahir presented his papers on “Health v Criminal Justice system” at an international conference in Delhi, India.

Tahir joined Accrington and Rossendale College in 2002 and has spent almost 9 years working within the Community development and ESOL Department. Tahir has completed his teacher training and the Level 5 Additional Diploma in Teaching ESOL.

Whilst at the college he has had many other roles including External Funding Co-ordinator and the Equality and Diversity Co-ordinator with responsibility to provide cultural training and embedding equality & diversity in all areas of the college including curriculum and policy.

In 2007 Tahir was promoted to Citizenship Manager and has been responsible for delivering all the college flagship ESOL Citizenship courses. The department was the largest provider of these courses in the North West. The college was successful in gaining the Home Office European Funding and the courses grew with over 25 tutors delivering classes across Lancashire.

Qualifications: BA Gen, PGCE, Advanced Cert Ed, Dip TEFLA, Cert TESLA, PRLS.

Pam has been working within FE & ESOL for the past 25 years, having previously taught English in Secondary Schools. She has recently retired from her role as programme Leader for ESOL in a FE college. She works for NIACE/LLU+ as a National Trainer for Citizenship tutors & is the course tutor for the Level 5 Additional Diploma in ESOL/Literacy. In addition, Pam works as an Oral Examiner and External Moderator for 2 national awarding organisations.

She is a hardworking, confident and self motivated individual who is reliable, punctual, determined and trustworthy. She is keen to learn and progress at any available opportunity. She has developed the skill and ability to negotiate, manage and organize herself and others. She is able to work well as part of a team but can also use her own initiative to achieve results.

Ruksana Mahmood has over 10 years of experience of successfully teaching ESOL from Pre-Entry level to Level 2 in a wide range of settings. She has also been teaching Citizenship for over 3 years.

In all her roles her responsibilities have included: initial assessment of students; designing schemes of work with active learning strategies to meet the differentiated needs of individual learners and their learning styles; final assessment of students; and evaluation of teaching programmes. She has been successful in ensuring high achievement levels for all students she has supported, and has had positive observations of her teaching sessions- both internally and externally including OFSTED and NHS. She ensures she keeps abreast of any developments within the education sector and this includes ESOL as well as other qualification pathways.

She aims to work in a dynamic and innovative organization that offers opportunities of growth and development in her career and provides a challenging work environment; where she stretches her capabilities and skills to the vertex so that she can enhance her inner strengths and explore wider horizons where she can also raise the bar to make herself work to achieve it. She is willing to be able to make a contribution to the workplace and leave an impact.
Yasmin Kayani is a graduate of Business Studies and has also obtained a PGCE. She has taught at both Accrington & Rossendale College and Blackburn College. After achieving her ESOL Level 5 Subject Specialist Certificate, she began to teach ESOL with Citizenship classes.
Samina has 13 years experience of giving information, advice and guidance to learners in an F.E. College and in community settings, as well as giving bilingual help with learner targets and personal development
