Course Overview
This Entry 2/3 ESOL course is for learners who already have some English skills and want to improve their confidence in real-life communication. The course helps learners engage in more complex conversations, describe experiences, understand written content, and improve grammar and writing structure — preparing them for work, study, and community life in the UK.
What you’ll learn
Understand and take part in extended conversations, including on the phone
Write clear, structured paragraphs using correct grammar and punctuation
Read and understand a variety of everyday texts (stories, instructions, articles)
Express opinions, describe events, and talk about future plans
Use correct tenses, prepositions, articles, and a wider range of vocabulary
Speaking & Listening
Respond to greetings and simple questions.
- Have conversations in a range of real-life situations
- Give and receive instructions and explanations
- Describe people, places, and events in the past, present, and future
- Express opinions and listen to others respectfully
- Speak clearly using correct stress and intonation
- Use polite language to interrupt or ask for clarification
- Apply correct grammar, prepositions, and articles in speech
Reading
- Understand key points in stories, descriptions, and explanations
- Identify the purpose of texts (e.g. catalogues, websites, dictionaries)
- Use reading strategies: skimming, scanning, and understanding visuals
- Search for information using alphabetical order or search engines
- Expand vocabulary through varied reading content
Writing
- Plan and draft writing using structured paragraphs
- Organise ideas using linking words (e.g. because, before, next, finally)
- Fill in more complex forms
- Edit writing to correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling
- Improve sentence variety and writing clarity
- Use proper handwriting and formatting
